From the Temptations in 1964 to BTS, from the Spice Girls to Blackpink, all the way to Huntr/x, the virtual band born from a Netflix animated film in 2024. At the top of everything, One Direction: six billion songs as a group, eleven as solo artists — the defining case of this volume and perhaps of the entire history of boy bands. But there's more: an analysis of the "solo streams" — the billion songs that former members produced as solo artists, often surpassing the numbers of the group itself — and a look at who's still missing: the notable absentees like Little Mix, the most credible candidates to enter the club in 2026, and the bands that could surprise in the years ahead. Boy/Girl Bands and the Billion Songs (vocals), Melvin Franklin (bass vocals), Otis Williams (vocals). Lineup Changes The history of The Temptations is a story of continuous lineup changes. David Ru n left in 1968 to launch a solo career. Eddie Kendricks departed in 1971. Paul Williams retired due to health issues in 1971 and passed away in 1973. The lineup has changed dozens of times over the decades. Otis Williams is the only original member still active with the group today. Activity 1960 present. The group remains active in its current formation. Editorial Note Released sixty one years ago, My Girl (1964) is the oldest track in our entire dataset. Yet, every single day, someone searches for it on Spotify and presses play. The Temptations are not a boy band in the modern sense of the word: they are the roots. The movement, the vocal harmonies, the precise roles within the group everything that followed stems from here. They are the Ground Zero of this volume. And My Girl, with an opening bassline that hooks your brain and never lets go, is perhaps the most perfect example of an earworm ever welcomed into the Billion Club. Next Billion Track? At the moment, the group's second most streamed song is Papa Was A Rollin' Stone, sitting at around 200 million streams. It is unlikely to become another billion stream track on its own, but The Temptations' catalog is vast.
