From the Temptations in 1964 to BTS, from the Spice Girls to Blackpink, all the way to Huntr/x, the virtual band born from a Netflix animated film in 2024. At the top of everything, One Direction: six billion songs as a group, eleven as solo artists — the defining case of this volume and perhaps of the entire history of boy bands. But there's more: an analysis of the "solo streams" — the billion songs that former members produced as solo artists, often surpassing the numbers of the group itself — and a look at who's still missing: the notable absentees like Little Mix, the most credible candidates to enter the club in 2026, and the bands that could surprise in the years ahead. Boy/Girl Bands and the Billion Songs Lineup Changes On April 25, 2002, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes tragically passed away in a car crash in Honduras while on a spiritual retreat; she was only 30 years old. T Boz and Chilli chose to carry on as a duo over the years, releasing new material in 2017 featuring various guest artists. In 2022, they returned with new music to mark the group's 30th anniversary. Activity 1991 2002 in the original formation. T Boz and Chilli have continued as a duo since 2002. Editorial Note In 1999, No Scrubs was a straight up manifesto. Three girls from Atlanta saying "no" with rhythm, biting wit, and surgical precision to a certain type of man and a certain type of relationship. The track beautifully anticipated cultural conversations that mainstream society wouldn't fully unpack for another twenty years. TLC was never just a girl group: they were a de nitive point of view. And No Scrubs, holding strong with over 1.5 billion streams, proves that their perspective hasn't lost an ounce of its edge. Next Billion Track? Much like Destiny's Child, TLC currently features only a single track sitting above 500 million streams (at roughly 600 million): their 1994 hit Waterfalls from the CrazySexyCool album. A second billion track for TLC remains a distant prospect for now. 70
