The bow
The bow for the “violacello” must be light and short.
With the 1/8th violoncello, if the child finds holding the bow difficult, it is better to keep the “violacello”.
It is always better to have a lighter bow than a heavy one.
If the child has problems holding the bow, a “Baroque” one can be used, or it can be gripped 5-10 cm further on.
At the beginning, the thumb should be kept under the frog.
The bow should be marked with three divisions with coloured tape (see the photo).
The bow and the coloured marks on it
All children tend to make too big bow strokes: so it is very important set some rules straight away and make sure that the bow strokes are organised very carefully.
