Full ahead – the bow is the problem!

The woodpecker

Doing a “woodpecker” means having a good grip on the bow and the right weight on the middle of the bow. The bow is held with the cello-hand and is bounced on the strings, imitating the noise a woodpecker makes when drilling for insects.
The woodpecker is a particularly good exercise for small children. It should be used after Pan-da, and a rhythm can be added

The little bird

Exercise:

  1. Pan-da
  2. Tr Tr tr
  3. Tunnel
  4. Fly, flapping the elbows

The pressure must be kept on the string. The elbow should flap up and down like a bird’s wing.
Even if the arm is relaxed, the child must not stop applying the weight that produces the sound. The teacher should check that each finger keeps the right pressure on the bow, and also keep an eye on the child’s little finger.
