What else is there to say about the bow?

Lots! Lets look at the most important things.

Bow distribution

When all the rhythms have been practised at different speeds, also whilst talking, the teacher should go on to long notes using the whole of the bow, and explain how the bow-stroke is distributed according to the length of the notes:

At this stage in the method (Books 1 and 2), mainly based on memory, basic bow distribution techniques are learned thoroughly, ready for when reading music begins. The child must distribute the bow stroke evenly over the string whilst counting four. This is done starting straight away from the pieces in Book 1.

The “buongiorno” waves

A wave is a “buongiorno” said on two strings: the bow is drawn up and down, with 2, 4 and then 8 waves in each bow stroke. The teacher must explain that the weight is put on the lowest string. Movement of the forearm is added to that of the fingers.

The buonasera

The bow is lifted from the strings with the fingers and wrist, and then let fall.
The fingers are close together, the arm must not move.
