The ship

The siren of a ferry when it leaves to go out to sea is long and extremely loud, and it echoes all over the port.
“The ship” exercise is used to practise playing a sustained sound. The teacher plays a note and the child tries to imitate it.
The sound must be as beautiful as possible: loud and full of harmonics.
“The ship” can be practised playing the 2nd rhythm slowly, concentrating on the weight and the forearm.

How to study the bowing changing

During a complete down or up bow the child counts from 1 to 8. When he gets to ‘7’, he moves his wrist forward, saying ‘and’, he continues the bow until he gets to ‘8’.
Doing this the wrist is ready for the next bow change. Do the same thing at the frog for the down bow.
Initially the teacher can help the child in this by holding the bow still.
